If I Witness an Accident Should I Try to Help? / The Steele Law FirmIf you witness an injury accident please take the time to do these four simple things. By following this guide, you will make sure that the injured person receives the compensation he or she deserves.

  • Always stop, help, and dial 911! Our lives get busier each day, but if you see an accident while driving in your car or walking on the street then immediately dial 911 and stop and see if you can provide assistance.
  • Exchange contact information. Give your name and contact information to the victim. If the victim is too badly injured then give your contact information to the emergency responders. Also, get the injured person’s name and contact information so you can tell them later that you are a witness to the accident.
  • Take pictures. A picture never lies. If you have a smart phone or camera, take as many pictures as possible of the accident scene and its surroundings.

Write down what you remember as quickly as possible. Research shows that memories begin to fade minutes or hours after an accident. For that reason, write what you saw as soon as you can. You can even offer to provide this information to the injured person or an investigator.
